My beautiful Dustibunni's Eloquence had 10 babies last Monday!! She delivered 10, 1 was DOA (dead on arrival) and I had 2 runts that didn't make it. Still, 7 is a very large litter for her. After months of waiting, and since I've been trying every month to breed her since August, I was thrilled that she finally had babies! Ellie was bred to Sno, so all of the babies are REW's like the parents. With Ellie being the doe that she is, GC with 6 legs, I'm very hopeful that these babies will be very nice and probably place well on the showtable. I plan to show several in Amana Colonies in Iowa this spring at Angora Nationals. These are truly beautiful babies. The above picture was taken the morning they were born, below is a picture of them a couple days ago and then their one week picture. Their white "sheen" is already showing... Can't wait until their eyes open!!! I'm so excited and delighted. I wasn't actually expecting babies, she surprised me. I was trying not to get my hopes up, so I was doubly happy when she had babies early Monday morning. :-) Now you can watch for pictures hopefully more frequently from here on out!!! Babies and grooming will keep me on my toes, and give me something cute to share. As well as Ellie having babies, December 5th was a huge rabbit show. MO state convention is always a big show, there was a great angora turnout. I brought 2 EA's to register with ARBA, and then showed my Opal buck Cabernet just to get opinions on. I also showed 1 Dutch rabbit, a beautiful blue doe that I kept from Elise's and Hornblower's litter from June. She did extremely well!! She was #1 in her blue class, which is a great placing. She got BOV, which I believe is a leg. She was up for BOB, but the judge picked a Black buck over her because she had some coat staining (something that will leave as soon as her coat molts). I was thrilled, the judge loved her, and I had a friend/mentor Bob Bergene, go over her, and he really liked her too. I had kept her just on a feeling basis, she is a "big" doe, just like her momma. She is the first blue I've ever been pleased enough with to keep, and it was awesome to get the reassurance and opinions of others that I made the right choice with her. :-) All in all, it was a great show, with a great turnout of friends and breeders, especially in the Angora circle. But that isn't all.... I brought home a couple new additions and a new project! Meet 2 Chocolates, and a beautiful Black buck! The chocolates are something I've been wanting to get back into for awhile, I was just waiting for some of really high quality. Pedigreed chocolates run on the more rare side and breeders don't have a lot to sell. These are from Bob Bergene, he thought they would be a nice pair to start with. I'm happy to have chocolates again, and I'm very happy that this time they are high quality and pedigreed. As for the Black buck, I really really like him. I told Bob months in advance that I wanted a really nice black or blue buck, something that would be a really good herdsire. Hornblower is a great buck, I love his traits, and now I have a second buck that should produce hopefully around the same. Bob had selected him from among his own keeper "stash" lol... so he thought he would work especially well with my Blue doe that just placed really well. They are all sweet rabbits, all of them are pretty docile. I still need to work on some names, I'll be doing some name compilations for Ellie's litter here soon, so hopefully I'll have some ideas. Yeah, these guys are pretty cute too! Elise (bred to Hornblower) had a beautiful litter of 6 babies. They are getting pretty big now, they will be ready for new homes around Chirstmas. There are a couple really nice little ones in there, a couple others that are pets. Surprisingly, 5 are bucks, 1 is a doe. They are full littermates to the Doe that I just showed and placed BOV in a sizable class at MO state convention. Cute little babies to have around. :-) So... Watch for another update soon! Ellie's babies are sure to be adorable and I'll have to share some of the cuteness. :-) Email service is back up and running smoothly, so contacting me is easy again.
